The First Spark
I’ll never forget the moment I first saw a movie where Jackie Chan was training on a wooden dummy. I was completely hooked. I had to know what kind of martial art it was. After some research, I discovered that the wooden dummy is a core training tool used by Wing Tsun Kung Fu practitioners. Unfortunately, the closest Wing Tsun school was 100 km from my town.
A New Start in Warsaw
Many years later, I moved to Warsaw, the capital of Poland, for work. I remember very clearly where I was in life at that time. It was a really difficult period — I was struggling with my mental health and financial problems. In the back of my mind, I always wanted to try Wing Tsun. My wife knew that, so for my birthday she gave me a three-month membership at a Wing Tsun school.
Finding My Path
From the very first training, I was amazed at how dynamic, fast, and direct this system is. Right after that first class I knew: Wing Tsun is my thing. As I mentioned, my situation was tough back then, and Wing Tsun gave me a sense of belonging. I was getting stronger mentally. Wing Tsun definitely helped me change my life — it gave me purpose, made me stronger, and pushed me to be a better person.
Meeting the Masters
When I attended my first seminar and experienced the teaching of our Grandmaster Norbert Maday, I was blown away by what Wing Tsun Kung Fu really looks like at the highest level.
I was about to move to London and asked Si-Kung who could teach me in the UK. That’s how I found SiHing Gabor and Si-Fu Ferenc, who took me under their wings. To this day, I’m incredibly grateful to them.
12 Years Later: It’s About the Journey
This year I’m celebrating 12 years of practicing this fantastic martial art. I’ll never forget when Si-Fu Ferenc told me: “It’s not about the final destination, it’s about the journey.” Every day I try to learn and polish my skills — not only in the training hall with my incredible kung fu brothers and sisters, but also in life. For me, that is real Kung Fu.
More Than Fighting
To me, Wing Tsun is much more than fighting. It’s a life-changing tool, especially when I face difficulties. Two years ago, I was involved in opening a school in Swanley with my kung fu brother, SiHing Matt. It gave me the opportunity to teach and see how Wing Tsun is changing the lives of the next generation of students. I can’t describe what a privilege and honour it is to be part of that.
Stay strong and train hard. See you at the next training!
