Si-Kung soon started recognising the students who kept returning to Hungary, including me. We had the chance to train, talk, dine, and spend time with him. Those moments were unforgettable and deeply appreciated by all of us. During one of our conversations, Si-Kung shared his concerns about the state of WingTsun in Western Europe. Splitted branches, instructors introducing their own “modernised” versions or blending it with other martial arts.
The need to preserve the original art had become more urgent than ever. Even before that, I had already felt a strong desire to bring what I was experiencing back to my home country, Greece. But hearing Si-Kung sharing his concerns, I realised how important that mission was, to protect and preserve the classical art in its true form, along with all the benefits it offers
So during a holiday in Athens, I decided to visit a few WingTsun schools, do some training, and exchange knowledge. Each place was different.
Some were cautious, while others were more friendly, and in one case, I was even challenged.
Eventually, I came across a small WT studio in central Athens where things felt different straight away. Si-Fu Michael and his students welcomed me warmly and showed immediate respect for my Si-Kung. Having been part of the old Western European WT organisation, they were already familiar with IWTA and the history of WingTsun.Training there was genuinely enjoyable, and we connected quickly. Si-Fu Michael showed real interest in meeting Si-Kung Maday, so not long after, he came to visit us in London. After attending Si-Hing Gabor’s dynamic class, I introduced him to my Si-Fu Ferenc Kovacs. The welcome was warm, and then a highly technical ChiSao exchange between them followed, something I felt truly privileged to witness
I had always been waiting for the moment I’d see my Si-Fu and Si-Kung step in Athens,it felt like a dream I was holding for a long time. When it finally happened, it was even better than I imagined. Si-Fu Michael, out of appreciation and respect for what we did, invited the organisation to host an initial seminar in Athens. The seminar brought together one of the strongest WT teams ever seen in Greece, with high-level masters also joining from countries like Poland and Lithuania. Si-Kung introduced the Greek students to the first ChiSao programs, and the response was amazing. Everyone enjoyed the training, the teachings and the whole experience, including the sun and the ancient sights we organised around it. Soon after IWTA and EEWTO headquarters officially announced the new school.WingTsun had come back to Greece, and in that moment, it honestly felt surreal. I had no words to fully express the satisfaction and happiness I felt seeing it all come together
Looking back, nothing in this journey feels accidental. From early training in Athens and Hong Kong,to London and Hungary and then back to Athens. What once seemed like obstacles then became necessary turning points. Every step brought me closer to understanding that Kung Fu is a way of life.
Today, the journey continues with the same mindset: to grow, preserve and pass down this rare art in its purest form. Because at the end, Kung Fu is not about where you begin or even where you arrive, but who you become along the way
